CEO Corner
With the launch of our Fall FieldView
Solutions’ DCIM Newsletter, we are eager to share with you some of
the highlights and achievements we’ve had during the summer.
We are delighted to have been honored by 2011 GoingGreen Global 200
for being “One of the most promising private greentech companies on the
planet.” We were nominated by several top firms, including Morgan
Stanley, Technology Partners, DFJ, SAP and KPMG.
Aside from the “planetary” accolades, we have also come to
discover that there has been some confusion with regards to the definition
of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM). After extensive
conversations with many customers, we realized that there are a myriad of
definitions for DCIM that scale across IT teams and facility management
groups. One of the main points we try to drive home is that DCIM is not a
panacea for every data center ailment. Rather, FieldView's brand of DCIM is
an advanced system measurement tool designed to improve and control data
center energy usage—while validating cost savings across globally
distributed environments. We continue to have ongoing conversations with
Gartner and other industry analysts to help dispel the misnomers and
solidify the DCIM truths. I invite you to join the conversation and
register your opinions in our blog.
I am also proud to inform you that FieldView executives continue to
be sought out as spokespeople for industry events. David Schirmacher, Chief
Strategy Officer for FieldView Solutions, presented at The Data Center
of the Future Series Part 1, hosted by 7x24 Exchange, Empire
State Chapter Meeting on October 14. Schirmacher’s presentation, Energy:
How to measure! How to save! provided insight on energy efficiency in
data centers. Additionally, David joined industry expert Andy Lawrence of
the 451 Group for a Webinar titled Tools
for Managing Your Data Center. The 60-minute complimentary webinar,
sponsored by ABB, moderated by Kevin Heslin, editor, Mission
Critical magazine, was held in late September.
Aside from their stage presence, FieldView’s executives continue to
share their thought leadership views via considerable media
coverage. Complementing the media coverage, FieldView is the Stewart of
our own original content and discussions. I urge you to visit our FieldView
DCIM Professionals Group on LinkedIn and join over 133 data center
professionals engaged in thought-provoking conversations.

Customer Case Study
FieldView Solutions' Web-based data center software, FieldView, was selected by a
Fortune 50 global financial services company - with over $840B
under management and 35,700 employees – when it planned to build a new
data center in New Jersey. From past experiences (sometimes painful), the
company knew that they needed a powerful data management system with a full
suite of Data Center Infrastructure Management tools. After reviewing
several software providers, the company selected FieldView Solutions to
manage their system. Implementation progressed with the construction of the
new data center with FieldView staying one-step-ahead of the other
contractors and always available for testing and validation.
With the opening of the new data center, FieldView was already
working and able to assist in locating and installing all of the servers,
PDUs, generators and CRAC units, in addition to the major points on the
HVAC systems.
The financial services company disclosed this statement to us: "We
never had a new start-up data center progress so smoothly." This led to
their decision of adding two additions to the existing system, tripling the
size of their data center. FieldView was able to add the necessary points
for the new equipment, and seamlessly integrate it into the existing
system.
Based on the customer’s experience with their other data centers,
they estimated a 20% energy consumption savings in the first-year at their
New Jersey data center. The success led to the deployment of FieldView in
the customer’s other data centers in New Jersey, Chicago, Tokyo and
London – with remote sites added seamlessly, the system produced metrics,
analytics and alarms globally, by country, by state and by
location.
