CEO Corner

The response from our first FieldView Solutions' DCIM Newsletter has been so overwhelmingly positive, that we have decided to continue our delivery. It was a pleasure to hear from many of you and I hope you will find this next addition just as interesting.

As many of you know, the DCIM market is a bit convoluted and fragmented, with many point tools and solutions. Another constant within our environment is the fact that data centers are indeed becoming bigger, denser and more complex. These two situations seem to be an inherent flaw replayed throughout the IT infrastructure evolution. It stands to reason that bolting on various management tools – with different varying technologies – to achieve one holistic data center view, is a difficult task at best. And ensuring that they all work seamlessly is even more difficult.

FieldView Solutions understands the challenges faced by IT and facilities managers and strives to create better DCIM solutions. Case in point: our release of FieldView 4.0. Many of you may have seen our series of news Leaks mailers revealing new enhancements. In addition, we provided a first look at the 4.0 demo, at the Uptime Institute Symposium, that drew considerable attention. I'm extending an invitation for you to also view the 4.0 demo.

In the endless pursuit of expanding our offering to meet your needs, we have formed a strategic partnership with Universal Electric Corporation, the manufacturer of the electrical power distribution system STARLINE Track Busway. Our success in advanced interoperability testing with Universal Electric Corporation helps provide real-time data center infrastructure management visibility into STARLINE's process of supplying power to electrical loads. The combination taps the busway instantly at any location— without causing downtime.

Regarding press, FieldView Solutions executives have been the topic of a number of media interviews and to top it off, our company was selected by New York Enterprise Report as one of the 10 Great Entrepreneurial Places to Work in the tri-state area—citing our "family-first” mantra and "performance-based” company culture as exceptional.

And finally, I have to extend a "thank you” to all who have made our social media endeavors a success. Specifically, our FieldView DCIM Professionals Group on LinkedIn has grown to 119 members—in a very short time. Within this group, we frequently engage in topical discussions pertaining to industry issues and data center management best practices and questions. We understand this is quickly becoming a valued resource for you and we are proud to continue our involvement.

For additional social media insights, our executives are sharing thought-provoking content in our blog posts. Check this area frequently for more in-depth content surrounding the development of DCIM solutions and how various industry trends may impact your specific data centers. If you haven't already, I invite you to follow us on one of our social media sites. [LinkedIn, Twitter, FB, Blog, YouTube]

These are indeed exciting times to be servicing the ever expanding data center needs.

Thank you for your feedback and support, we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely
Fred Dirla, CEO

FieldView Solutions' CSO Shares Thought Leadership in Data Center Post
Environmental Monitoring: Rethink Your Data Center Strategy

FieldView Solutions Chief Strategy Officer, David
Schirmacher was recently invited to share his insights on data center environmental monitoring. If you missed the commentary, visit this link.

Also read David's comments in the July issue of Site Selection Magazine on why data centers are locating where they are.

Did You Know?

Over the past decade, data center electric consumption has grown by over 10% per year, and today accounts for 3% of the total electric production of the United States.
Last year Gartner predicted a 60 percent market penetration of DCIM by 2014, driven by increased power and heat density, data center consolidation, virtualization and cloud computing.
IDC forecast expects overall 2011 IT spending to grow 5.7 percent over 2010 to reach $1.6 trillion, with much of that growth coming in IT segments critical to the growth of data centers.

Customer Telx Case Study

FieldView Solutions' Web-based data center software, FieldView, was selected by Telx, a leading interconnection and data center provider serving telecommunications providers, cloud computing providers and large enterprises, to reduce energy and cooling consumption within four of its mission-critical facilities. FieldView software has also helped the leading interconnection and cloud connection center provider with multiple expansions.

"My team relies on FieldView as part of our operations budget planning due to its detailed reports on long-term power consumption,” said Michael Terlizzi, Executive Vice President of Operations for Telx. "In addition, our high-demand data centers in New York, New Jersey and Chicago must scale quickly to support increased demand from service providers, cloud computing providers, financial services firms and enterprises. With FieldView's help, my operations team can now handle—with a few clicks of a mouse—what used to require hours of resources.”

Tech Corner

By David Hauck
FieldView Solutions unveiled FieldView 4.0 — an enhanced version of the Company's award-winning (DCIM) solution that boasts advanced system measurement tools and streamlined analytical reports that improve and control data center energy usage—while validating cost savings across globally distributed environments.

"The management of datacenters has become significantly more complicated in recent years, and the consequences of poor decisions can be hugely expensive. Those datacenters that are effectively optimized for efficiency and availability through the application of good software tools will not only save their organizations millions of dollars, but the risk of serious service disruption can be substantially reduced,” said Andy Lawrence, Research Director, Eco-Efficient IT at The 451 Group. "FieldView, used by many blue chip companies, is one such tool: it is clearly designed by and for dedicated datacenter managers, who need visibility into their entire infrastructure, not just the servers and the racks.”

Highlights of Release 4.00 include:

  • Site Metrics Ribbon (SMR)
  • Redesigned User Interface (UI)
  • The Metrics Viewer (MV)
  • Business Intelligence (BI) Reports and Charts
  • Critical Polling Agent (CPA)
  • Visibility into Infrastructure and Related Computing Equipment
  • Zone Concept (ZC)
  • Enhanced Operational Reporting
  • Enterprise Integration Layer (EIL)
